MAKE TIME TO UNPLUG

From someone who used to be allergic to the word “unplug” I somehow managed to (years later) learn how to do so. Not so much to do it but I learned why I NEEDED to do it! For my mind, body and soul…

It doesn’t matter what career you are in, if you work from home or take care of your family. All of these are job and you MUST take the time to unplug, relax and maybe even meditate. Be grateful for what you have. Take the time to write these things down in a journal. Create a zen for yourself. Create a happy place to escape to even if it just in your mind.

When you take the time to do this you will come back to wherever you needed to get to faster because you are feeling so refreshed.

When I gave myself this challenge of writing 30 blogs in 30 days for my How To Series I thought it was honestly going to be a piece of cake.

Ummm…

That was not the case. I had to create a posting schedule for 30 days and five weeks that would make sense and excite my readers. Manage the professionals posts that were sent to me as I had many guests help me create a few posts each week. Then I had to share my story as well as a few others every day. Almost every post was at a minimum of 1,000 words.

And I am so happy and thrilled to share with you that today is Blog #30. The end of my How To Series. I am not going to lie when I tell you how proud I am that I achieved this personal goal of mine. Again…

That being said I am going to take my own advice and unplug this weekend. I’m going to take deep breathes, write in my journal and just escape from my norm…

Aside from unplugging I will be working on The Happy Workaholic Podcast!

I wanted to leave a few of my favorite “unplugged” quotes. Please enjoy them below…

It was true pleasure writing this series every day and I truly appreciated all of the comments here as well as all over my social media channels.

I want to connect and/or stay connected with you! Let me know what is going on in your world…

Comment below and let’s chat.

Now it is time for me to officially unplug until Monday and I hope you do the same…

FOOD IS YOUR FUEL

As someone who has always been up and down in weight it wasn’t until a few years ago that I began eating the right foods and just not the right portions. I finally realized that I needed to eat certain foods as they were actual fuel for my body. Giving me the nutrients and energy that I needed for the day. This is when I really started to listen to my body! My past story was always making sure to prep my meals and eat in portions but it was what I was putting in those meals that was all wrong. Too many bad carbs, sodium, gluten and sugar! These are definite no no’s in my book especially with having an autoimmune disease. There are certain things that just do not agree with me. Wheat and Soy are two of them. Now I know why I always looked swollen and bloated in pics. It wasn’t the alcohol it was the food! I’m not kidding…

I decided to go (almost) dairy free about four years ago. The reason behind this was I found out I could not have my iced coffee with milk in the hour after I took my thyroid medication in the am. So obviously, I had to find a resolution for that because I cannot go that long without my iced coffee in the morning. That is when I discovered my sugar-free vanilla almond milk. Which I still use every morning. Side Note: After a week my skin was clearer and all of my bloating went away. I was in shock when I realized it was dairy that was actually causing that.

I do cheat and have dairy every now and then. Sometimes (monthly) I am in need of a soft-serve cone and on Friday night I need pizza. I am still searching for a dairy free cheese without soy that I love. So if you have any names please send them my way. I grew up on pizza every Friday night. I have to have the mozzarella and that is that! I am such a high maintenance East Coaster. Pizza and Iced Coffee! Hello! I cannot live without them. Cannot!

Over the last few months I’ve been creating vegan and vegetarian meals! Lentil Vegan Falafel, Vegan Pumpkin Pancakes, Detox Soups, Vegan Ice Cream, Fresh Juices, Hummus and my favorite so far are to make homemade Veggie Burgers. I have about five different variations now. Cooking is also a huge stress reliever for me so spending hours in the kitchen just puts me at ease. Using random ingredients and leftovers in my meals is usually one of the ways I end up making the most unique but delicious meals.

Throughout the process of cooking my meals I usually post on my Instagram Stories. And then the final result is posted on my Pinterest. I honestly just love to share my recipes. And find new ones that I attempt to create as well! I definitely need to up my baking skills. I will not deny that but at least I am trying right? lol

If you have been reading my How To Series all month long you may have read a few times about a Facebook group I am a part of that has literally changed the way I think, speak and live. The best way to describe it is that I got an attitude makeover. It was created by Cara Alwill Leyba aka creator of the blog The Champagne Diet and the book Girl Code as well as many others. This group is filled with the most inspirational, motivational and empowered women from all around the world. Yes! That actually exists. If you would like to see what The Slay Baby Collective is all about just click here...

I hope that you enjoyed today’s post. If you would like to get caught up on the rest of the How To Series posts click here. I cannot believe tomorrow is the last day! 30 straight days of blogs. Wow! Almost there and then it’s CHALLENGE COMPLETE for me!!! I am so proud of myself and thankful for everyone who was a part of the How to Series. As I could not have made it as good as it is without you…

HOW TO BE WELL

Today I wanted to share a few things that you really should do to just BE WELL! These tips are great for your overall health and well being. Don’t be overwhelmed if you haven’t done any since last year just make it a priority to get them done throughout the month. The first step is making a list…

When was the last time you went to the dentist or your primary doctor? If it’s been a while make a phone call and schedule an appointment. It really is that simple! Everyone is so busy and working these days that we sometimes forget to make the time to take care of ourselves.

Well my friend now is the time…

Follow up with any doctors that you have been putting off. I am telling you this as it has become my full time job for over a year now since learning over my NMO diagnosis.

Do you know how many patients your doctor will see in a week? I doubt it! You are just another name on a list. It is YOUR JOB to follow up if you want answers. If you are not sure how to do so email me and I will give you a step by step. I am telling you I am a PRO at this sh*t! Sorry for the swears but it is necessary. I feel like I am saving my own life every day.

YOU must be your own advocate and be proactive in any and all things medical. Always, ALWAYS get a second opinion if you are looking for answers regarding a specific medical issue you happen to be going through. And maybe even a third opinion. Don’t be shy or feel bad! This is your life we are talking about. You only have one to live so you must make the best choices in these matters. Again, I am telling you all of this from experience…

If you would like to learn more about my health journey and how to be proactive click here…

SELF CARE. Do you partake? If not, make the time. Even if it is ten minutes. Meditate, listen to some relaxing music, journal, listen to a podcast or cook a delicious meal. What ever your body is craving. Mind, body and soul. Just check the hell out! It is so important to do this every day or every other day even if it’s for five minutes. It will completely change the mood you were in. When you have more time like on a Saturday or Sunday treat yourself to a spa day. Either at a new hotel or at home. I am not going to lie. I love my DIY spa days. I put on a face and hair mask, sit in a bubble bath and just zone out. At times I bring a book or even my tablet to catch up on my shows. I know seriously? Yes. I am that girl! However, don’t knock it until you try it. Having a tv in the bathroom is amazing. Why do you think they are in your hotel bathrooms? Hello? lol

Lastly, I want to share something with you that has really been helping me through my recent health diagnosis. That is doTERRA Essential Oils. I tried them once and I was sold. I just love the fact that they can help you from the inside out. You can use them topically for your body and your home as well. Adding them in all my healthy juices and meals I create just adds so many additional health benefits. This info is just a tiny bit of what the oils can do for you and your overall well being.

I believe so much in this product that I have now become a doTERRA Wellness Advocate. What that means is that you can order all your doTERRA Essential Oils through my website which you can find right here.

As always, sharing is caring. If you have a friend that you feel could benefit from today’s blog post or anything else on my site I would love it if you could share it with them!

Please leave me a comment below to let me know what you do to “be well” and take care of yourself or maybe how you would like to change.

Wishing you a wonderful Day!

One more thing…

Today on #GivingTuesday, Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center will be matching up to $2 million of funds raised for US nonprofits through Facebook’s charitable giving tools. I would truly appreciate it if you would create an NMO fundraiser on Facebook or hit the “Donate” button on The Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation’s Facebook page. Neuromyelitis Optica is the autoimmune disease that I have and that there is no cure for. A disease where getting a chemo treatment twice a year for the rest of my life is the only way to prevent a relapse. You can learn more about NMO here…

Donations can be matched up to $50,000 per nonprofit, with a max of $1,000 per fundraiser or donate button, until the $2 million in matching funds run out. And, Facebook is waiving all fees for donations to nonprofits on #GivingTuesday. Don’t miss out on this incredible fundraising opportunity to double your donations! #GiveTueNMO

Thanks for letting me share this today…

HAIR TIPS FROM PROS. PART TWO.

There is some great advice shared here to conclude the Hair Tips portion of Beauty Week. Just saying…

First off… I would just like to remind you of a little post I wrote a few weeks ago titled WHY COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING!

About a year ago I became involved in a Facebook group and met an incredible woman Meg Blair. A group filled with some serious Lady Bosses.

Cut to a few months ago…

I knew Meg was involved with Monat hair products from seeing her posts so I messaged her as I was quite curious. I’ve been going through Chemo over the past few months and noticed I am loosing more hair and wanted some info on that line in the hopes that it could help me out!

Meg was amazing! Not only did she send me the link, she also sent me four full size products. If I never joined that Facebook community I never would have met Meg and/or tried these products. Building relationships in your personal and professional life is the key to happiness as well as success. This I know from experience!

I’ll admit I really need to start using my Monat products more religiously in order to see the best results but so far so good. It is amazing to see the result’s of others so I’m hoping I’ll end up like one of them soon. As of right now, it has kept my color in two weeks longer and the fullness and shine is on another level! That right there is pretty great considering the length of time I have been using them…

If you want to see what Monat products I am using check out my Instagram Stories later today…

Now I would like to introduce you to Tanya Ramirez aka @untamedinstinct on Instagram.

I met Tanya when I first moved to Beverly Hills. I went on Google my first day there searching for someone to save my hair because someone in Miami had just turned my hair to a pretty orange shade! That being said her incredible portfolio sold me! I booked my first appointment with her. She took a drastic unrealistic color and magically turned it into perfection and without damaging my hair one bit. From black to blonde is a pretty tough job! When I left LA for San Diego a few years later I still made the trips to LA to see her because she really is the best!

I asked Tanya to share some basic tips for us today. They are short, sweet and to the point…

Tips on the best way to part your hair.
Heart-shaped face
Ideal hair parting: Side parting
A side-parting helps to shift the focus away from the widest part of the head: forehead. By creating this diagonal line across the face, there is more emphasis on the lower structure of the face: cheekbones, lips, chin. Keep the top sleek with any volume in mid-shaft through ends of hair.
Square-shaped face
Ideal hair parting: Middle or Side parting
A middle parting helps soften the edges/corners of the face both in the forehead, as well as, the chin area.
A side-parting also helps shift the focus away from the wide areas of the face. There is more emphasis on the eyes, cheeks, nose and lips. Keep any volume to a minimum to maintain a sleek profile.
Round-shaped face
Ideal hair parting: Middle or Side parting
A middle parting helps create a center focal point and softens the outer edges of the face for an elongated shape.
A side-parting can also help shift the focus away from the wide areas of the face. This way there is more emphasis on the eyes and cheekbones. Keep any volume to a minimum to maintain a sleek profile.
Oval-shaped face
Ideal hair parting: Middle or Side parting
A middle parting can highlight the overall symmetry and balance of the face. Be sure to create some volume at the sides of the face with your hair to avoid an over-elongated profile.
A side-parting can shift the focus and create the illusion of a wider face to help balance out the overall structure. This face shape benefits from volume at the top and sides of the face.

HOW TO ENGAGE WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

To piggyback off yesterday’s HOW TO GET SOCIAL! post I wanted to reiterate how important it is to engage with your audience, your followers and of course your friends…

Your customers and clients can be anywhere. You always want to be active online and as positive as possible everywhere you go. Grocery store, post office, mall etc.

That parking spot you just decided to pull into while the other car was waiting could have been a client. See the trend here…

Let’s focus on your social media platforms. When you share a pic or video on your Facebook, Instagram or Facebook do your followers comment? Or do you they just hit like?

I will admit it. I used to be a “liker” but why not engage? Try it. Engage after that “LIKE”. I promise it will teach you something. And share too! If you have other friends in business or a mentor just posted an incredible quote why not share it with your audience? It feels great to know that you have their support!

Engaging online is a great way to get recognized quicker if that is something you are striving for. I actually do it because I am obsessed with meeting new people. I have always been the person who wants to learn as much as I can about someone. I want to be able to connect them with others. Or maybe even partner up with them on projects! Networking has just always been in my blood…

You never know what someone may be going through each day so a tiny thing such a an emoji or comment on their post can really mean the world to them. Just saying…

Now go out there and engage. Let me know how it has changed you or your business over the next week or so.

One very important thing I would like to mention is that if a client or customer reaches out to you please do not ignore. Always always follow up! Because it is the right thing to do! And be sure to do it in a timely manner.

Please and thank you…

Until tomorrow…

As always sharing is caring and let me know what you think about this post. Leave me a little message in the comments below.

Have a great day 🙂

HOW TO GET SOCIAL!

Happy Thursday! Keeping it short and sweet today!

How do you get social? Pick a few of your favorite social media platforms, local restaurants/bars or coffee shops to spend some time in this weekend.

I prefer Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn and small family run businesses to hang out in!

Introduce yourself in groups, at happy hour or when in line for your coffee!

Engage when you feel comfortable and as much as you feel necessary!

Meet new friends in person and online!

Just spread some love and positive juju this week.

Why?

Because everyone needs it these days…

Wouldn’t it feel nice to know that you were the one to brighten up someone’s day?

Now that is how you get social!

HOW TO — USE HASHTAGS

What is a hashtag?

A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic used throughout the world on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

What is a hashtag used for?

To explain this to you the simplest way possible they are like their own mini search engine that you design and/or include yourself in so that your content is recognized.

Example: I wanted to find other NMO patients like myself on Instagram so I searched #NMO #livingwithnmo #chronicillness #spoonie etc. And there my new friends magically appear. The same goes for business. Use hashtags that your customers and clients would use so that they can find YOU! For example: I am a #linkedincoach #onlinebusinesscoach #wordpresswebdesigner #podcaster etc.

I do the same when posting something health related pics on my feed so others can find me too! By doing so we are basically all incorporated into that searchable engine of that specific hashtag. Side note: You must have a public profile in order to appear! So do that now if you would like to be #found.

Many friends and clients who run a business ask me the same thing all the time!

What hashtags should I use?

My simple answer is always make a list! You are allowed 30 hashtags. In your Instagram Stories you are allowed 11. If you know me well enough by now I have a list for #everything. EVERYTHING! Do this in the “notes” section on your phone so it can then become a simple copy/paste to save you time!

Here is a little tip: Shrink the size of your hashtags and place your text over them so your IG story looks a lot cleaner. Also, place your hashtags for your post in the comments so that when you share your IG pic thee are not a million hashtags on the actual post that just showed up on Facebook or LinkedIn! If you have a question about this just leave it in the comments below so I can answer for you 🙂

By the way…Don’t be surprised if this researching takes a few hours. That is normal! This is all part of your marketing plan so time must be spent on it! It will all be worth it in the end. Promise…

To see the formula I use on my feed and how I post just hashtags in the comment section you check out my Instagram feed here…

If you want a client/customer? You have to think like one. What would they be typing? What hashtags are they using to find who or what they want? Use those words.

However, make it unique! Make it #STANDOUT!

YOU have to be able to #shinebright among the crowd. Especially when it comes to direct sales and marketing. There are hundreds and thousands of you trying to sell the same exact thing!

How are you going to stand out (besides amazing pics/graphics of course)? Do you want to start your own tribe and trend? My suggestion and answer to that is YES YOU DO! What you also want to do is create your own hashtag. Use the position you are in for a reason and create a movement. And this goes for any position out there!

Business Example: If I was someone looking for a jet to charter either to and from Las Vegas I would look under #lasvegasjets and there you would come across brokers and jets to choose from. I mean can it be any easier?

If you were interested in finding a specific type of business coach you would look under #businesscoach #linkedincoach #smallbusinesscoach #socialmediacoach. See the trend. It goes both ways. When you are trying to find something or someone that’s how you do it.

The best part about having an Instagram business account is that your followers can contact you right there and BOOM that could be an instant sale! Just from using the proper hashtag.

Can you even believe this is the day and age we live in now? It’s insane right?

Advice: Be very specific with your hashtags. Create them for an audience. Make them unique enough but specific for someone to want to engage with you not just like your pretty picture. Tell your story, introduce your self, create a conversation that others will want to engage with you.

Engagement: The whole point of using a hashtag is to honestly help you get seen and help create a conversation. You have to want to engage with your audience. Create those relationships. It can be for fun or for work. Either way just engage. Otherwise, why bother using a hashtag. I’m giving you this platform to share so definitely take advantage of it! Who knows? You may have made a new friend by the end of the day. #hashtags can do crazy things! Those stories will be for another time! #lol

Personal Use: #hashtags are a great idea for moms that want a simple search engine to find a pic they posted three years ago. Instead of scrolling through their feed for an hour they can simply look under their hashtag they have personally created. Sooo much easier right?

If you are a big traveler create a hashtag for each trip. There are so many apps out there right now that using those hashtags will then allow you to create a book using all those pics. You can literally design a book from an app in minutes. Great gift idea too!

Now for some #Hashtag humor…

I mean who doesn’t need a little Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake in their life?

Or maybe you are a Jonah Hill fan?

GOING WITH THE FLOW…

Being in San Diego over the past week has made me realize a few things. Slowing down, breathing and just living would be a few of them (which I am in the process of relearning). It is tough. I am not going to lie about that! I have had to comes to terms with the fact that it is ok to just BE. Be still and be true to myself and everything around me. You need to just inhale and exhale your surroundings as well as embrace the new ones and most importantly enjoy life!

Life does not always go as planned and I have recently realized to go with the flow and not get upset that I do not have all the control in my life. Life is way too short to stress the small stuff and even the very big stuff. Everything happens for a reason and that is how I choose to live MY life.

The point of me writing this is because I had originally planned to launch a few more additions to my website and brand this month but really sat down and had a chat with myself this morning. PS I recommend this to everyone! So I have decided to take another 30 days to prep, reorganize, finalize, refresh, recharge and plan ahead for the remainder of the year.

I also need a little bit more time to detox from all of my medical procedures I have had over the last year. It has taken a toll and I am feeling it now! I also need time to get used to new medications and way of life. It is a very physically, mentally and emotionally draining time and need to let myself breathe and just “BE”. This is honestly very difficult for me to do but I know it has to be done so I am doing it!

I have many creative projects in the works and I need this time off from blogging and social media schedules to do just this. Be creative. Be in my own space.

I will be back in July with many announcements that I cannot wait to share with each and every one of you!

Until then you can find me on my website kellyanngorman.com.

Wishing you all a wonderful June!

WHY I’M GETTING PERSONAL ON LINKEDIN!

Every now and then you will see a post on LinkedIn that you know belongs on Facebook’s feed. Am I right? And you have also seen those posts from LinkedIn members asking why selfies are here on a “business” platform. It just doesn’t make sense when you are networking. This I agree with…

However, I will admit I have my Instagram account connected to my Facebook Page which then posts to LinkedIn. Why do I do that you ask? Well I know it doesn’t make much sense for many brands but it does for mine. The reason for that is because I AM MY BRAND. I want my LinkedIn connections to know about and visit my Facebook and Instagram and see a more personal side of me. It also builds more of a trust with my audience especially when I am pitching or coaching and growing my clientele. It shows I am real and also love to cook! lol

Not everyone will agree with this technique but it is what works for ME! When I coach clients and help build their brand some of them ask me if they should do what I am doing. And to be honest, most of the time I say NO! The reason behind that is because it just doesn’t make sense for their brand. You have to do what makes the most sense when building your business and not follow a trend etc. Everyone is different and this is what I do when I work with clients. I create and customize a very specific outline for them to follow which in the end will bring them more sales. And that is what we all want right? If you want to learn more about my Business Coaching feel free to contact me here…

Now…The reason why I am getting REALLY PERSONAL on LinkedIn lately is because I have an extremely rare autoimmune disease called Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO). And long story short I started posting LIVE videos on Facebook to bring awareness to it as soon as I found out. After a few videos, thousands of views and hundreds of messages I realized that what I needed to do was bigger. I needed to create some sort of platform for others to share their voice to be heard too! Not just NMO patients but anyone going through any illness or heartache. I also needed this space to be available for friends and family members to visit when looking for information or answers for their loved ones.

That place I created is called the JUST FOR US COMMUNITY. You can learn everything about JFUC at www.justforuscommunity.org.

Why am I writing about this on LinkedIn? Because this is not just going to be a space on Facebook. This is going to be something bigger. And I need your help!

The JUST FOR US COMMUNITY is something that I know is needed because I have lived through some serious health issues over the last year and with my experience of going through these circumstances, staying strong and fighting I know I am able to help so many other people. Plus the feedback and messages I have already received from complete strangers around the world proves to me this is needed.

I am bringing awareness to this community for not only patients and families but doctors, hospitals, researchers, non-profits, press, foundations and many more outlets. I am putting this community together because it is something that has to be available and also because my gut is telling me I can’t stop here. It’s telling me more is needed. I always go with my gut and follow my heart so here we are today.

So this is why I am getting personal. I am telling you my story today but tomorrow it will belong to someone else. I am sharing the good, the bad and the unsettling sometimes but guess what? That is what is needed to bring awareness to some of these diseases your everyday person may be fighting whether they choose to share or not. It is the real deal!

So back to why I need your help! I would truly appreciate if you would share this post for me. I am looking for those doctors, researchers, labs, technicians, nurses and average Joe’s to help me share this community in order to help others who are in need of the JUST FOR US COMMUNITY. I want everyone out there going through something to know that there is a safe place available for them to share their feelings, tears and of course get a dose of a little laughter. As that is always the best medicine.

That’s it! All I am asking for is a simple LIKE and SHARE!

Again to learn more about the JUST FOR US COMMUNITY click here.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and sharing and helping spread awareness of the JUST FOR US COMMUNITY.
